There was a lot of Christmas spirit around Kilgetty last week, with three events following each other.
On Monday, the Kilgetty in Bloom Christmas Window competition was judged by Rev. and Mrs. Bate, of St. Mary's Church, Begelly. Nearly all the businesses had entered their displays, which have really added to the festive look begun by the St. Mary's Place lights, to which many other households have added their decorations. With the street lights and Christmas trees shining brightly, Kilgetty and Begelly villages are sparkling!
Winner of best decorated window was Helen's Salon, with a beautiful gold-themed tree with angels. Four Seasons Fruit Shop won the best illuminated window award with a really vibrant display.
A big thank you to all the businesses who entered, helping to fund the events held later in the week.
On Thursday, an afternoon of music was attended by over 50 villagers, who were treated to sherry and mince pies, along with a spirited concert of carols and seasonal songs by 45 children from Stepaside School. Accompanied by their music teacher on guitar with their headmaster adding his voice, the children sang their hearts out. After prolonged applause, the choir returned to school armed with drinks and snacks.
Once tea had been served, the Rector kindly presented the cups for the window competition to the winners.
It was then the turn of '"The Joybelles' to entertain, under the leadership of their conductor, Don Bedford. A wide selection of music was played, starting with what seems to have become their signature tune, 'The Bells of St. Mary's'. The handbells give a delightfully mellow sound, and the audience was truly appreciative of an enjoyable afternoon.
All week, members of Begelly Kilgetty Community Association had been hard at work turning the Small Hall into a magical Christmas Grotto. Mr. Hester, of Begelly Park Gardens, had again kindly loaned his model village, which Kath and Mike Breen transformed with lights, tinsel and snow, and filled every nook and cranny with nearly 100 teddy bears, all kindly donated by local residents, which are destined for Children in Need.
Kath Barratt lent her magic touch to the Grotto, and all was ready for the visit of Father Christmas on Friday evening.
A huge sack of 'Goody Bags' was awaiting the children, which the staff of the Co-op had prepared and donated. Warmest thanks to them all.
Santa arrived, courtesy of Haverfordwest Lions, on the dot of 6.30 pm. A hall-full of excited youngsters dashed to greet him, and all were given plenty of time at the Grotto. Some had brought their favourite teddies to show to Father Christmas, and Pudsey Bear and friends were on hand to help things along.
Music was provided by Neil Jackson, who compered both events.
Balloons, drinks and snacks were available afterwards, to warm everyone up before venturing out into the rain again.
