A manic depressive who had suffered with the condition for 14 years, jumped to his death from a flyover bridge near his home, an inquest in Milford Haven heard last week.
Thirty-four-year-old Stuart Michael Eveson, of Copper Beech, Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, left his home on Friday, February 17, informing his mother that he was going to see a friend. He had consumed a bottle of wine before he left.
At around 4 pm that afternoon, a witness saw Mr. Eveson climbing the railings up to the flyover bridge from Kilgetty to Sardis, over the A477 road. There he was seen jumping 80 feet from the bridge onto the carriageway below. No vehicles driving on the road struck him.
Paramedics administered CPR at the scene, and Mr. Eveson was conveyed to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, where he later died. A post mortem revealed multiple fractures of the chest cage and pelvis.
"Mr. Eveson had suffered with depression for a number of years. I'm satisfied that he intended to take his life, and died as a result of multiple injuries sustained following his fall from a great height," said Pembrokeshire coroner, Michael Howells, who recorded a verdict of suicide.
