Most of the work of the Begelly, Kilgetty Community Association has been concentrated on the community garden this year. To the pergola and raised beds built last summer, we have added seating and shrub beds. A wildflower area was established, and a hedge planted by 1st Kilgetty Scout Troop. Having been again turned down for a grant by the Co-op Community Fund, we were most grateful to receive funding from PLANED, enabling a pathway and paved central area to be built. The volunteers have worked extremely hard in order to get ready the garden for opening to the public at the end of July. Time has also been found to raise 500 seedlings for planting out in the long beds in front of the community centre and around the village signs. A table top and plant sale is to be held tomorrow (Saturday, June 14), from 10 am at the community centre to raise funds for further planting. Ring 811194 to book a table. Much interest has been shown recently in local history, following photos and correspondence in the Tenby Observer. It was decided to hold an open meeting for all residents on Monday, June 16, at 7 pm, at the centre. All are asked to bring memories, family stories and memorabilia, which we shall attempt to collate and record for posterity! Kilgetty in Bloom gardening competition is to be judged on July 16 with completed entry forms due in by July 9. We urge all gardeners to have a go - there are 14 categories to enter, surely many of you has pride in some part of their garden! Presentation of Prizes is on July 25 and entrants will be invited to a preview of the community garden. We still await a decision from Pembs. County Council regarding the new community centre. Meanwhile, the existing building is just holding together, and is in daily use by groups and individuals. Preparations for the Village Fun Day on Sunday, July 27, are well in hand. Last year's bad weather curtailed much of the entertainment, so we hope to have better luck this time. Organised by Kingsmoor Sports Club, there will be lots of entertainment and competitions on the field, with fancy dress for the children, tea tent, barbecue and disco in the evening. Charities are invited to run stalls free of charge (ring 01834 812779 to book) and raffle tickets will be on sale soon. The Bulldog Vintage Vehicle Run will start from the RAOB car park at 1 pm and form a static display on the sports field all afternoon. Please support your local events!
