On a glorious Wednesday morning, the society travelled to Swansea to play at Earlswood Golf Course. This day had its ups and downs, and I don't mean the course, although it was quite hilly.

However, on the way an accident on the M4 caused a half-hour delay, so start time was delayed accordingly. But that's not all. Even though 'Chippy' tamed the course, ultimately the course had the last laugh. On the sixth his electric trolley broke down; luckily for him, son Mark was on the adjacent fairway and very kindly loaned dad his trolley and decided to carry his bag, which unfortunately took its toll and 'Woody's' golf suffered.

After leaving the 'defunct' trolley by the seventh green, Chippy continued his round. On returning to the clubhouse, he and Mark went to fetch his trolley, only to find that it had been stolen. A new one now is no option, much to Brenda's delight!

Back to golf. Numbers at this time of year seem to fall off for one reason or another, so 14 of us took to the course looking forward to an enjoyable day, which we all had, bar me! The format for the day was two three ball teams and two fourballs.

First trio to grace the fairways were Mark 'Woody' Wood, Trevor 'Santa' Lewis and Glyn 'Caravan' Latcham. By his own standards, 'Santa' played below his capabilities, while the other two had average rounds.

Following them were Rick 'Megane' Lewis, Barry 'Chippy' Wood and new member Mick 'Hammie' Hamilton. Welcome to the society Mick, hope you enjoyed the day. We had a fantastic front nine, with our sights set firmly on the team prize. Unfortunately, the wheels came off on the second half and all our aspirations were dashed!

The first four ball consisted of John 'Spindles' Hargrave, Tim 'Gavel' Davies, Mike 'Taxi' Thomas and Martin 'Mr. Plod' Davies. These guys played consistent golf and returned good cards.

Last to go out on this testing course were John 'Scribe' James, Richard 'Nelson' Davies, John 'The Tower' Shepherd and Roger 'Tonie' Handcock. They certainly tamed the course, each scoring high points, which enabled them to scoop the team prize by quite a margin.

After the golf, we all retired to a nearby Harvester for our post-golf meal, which was enjoyed by all. Having sated the inner man, 'Woody' thanked everyone for once again supporting the society and went on to welcome 'Hammie' to the fold, hoping to see him on many more trips to come.

He then presented the prizes as follows: 1. 'Chippy' Wood; 2. 'Tonie' Handcock; 3. 'Scribe' James.

Wooden spoon - 'Hammie' Hamilton (better luck next time).

Nearest the pin on the 6th - 'Caravan' Latcham and on the 15th - 'Chippy' Wood.

Over 20 handicappers - 'The Tower' Shepherd. OAP - 'Taxi' Thomas. Twos - 'Gavel' Davies.

Team winners - 'Scribe', 'Nelson', 'The Tower' and 'Tonie'.

Next month's day's golf will be on Wednesday, July 8, and will be at Trefloyne. Names as soon as possible to either Mark or Barry, thank you.

We have also booked the August day, which is on Wednesday, August 12, at South Pembs. Tee-off both months will be at 10 am. Please do your best to be at the course by 9.30 am.

Enjoy your golf. Remember, golf is not a good walked spoilt, unless your trolley breaks down!
