In July, seven of us went to Swansea Bay Golf Club and rain prevented play. A new date was set for August, but once again rain caused a cancellation. This month the venue was Carmarthen Golf Club and there was no rain! Conditions were not perfect; there was a strong wind and the course was very wet, but 22 players enjoyed a good round of golf.
Two new recruits were welcomed, Roger 'Elf Safety' Hancock and Steve 'Hire' Kennings.
Competition for prizes was keen, but 'putting' into first place was Darrell 'Ex-Rods' Jones with 37 points. In second place with 35 was Richard 'Tiger' Davies, followed by Lee 'Larnie' Lewis on 34. With Ex-Rods and Tiger in the same team, ably supported by Glyn 'Caravan' Latcham, it was natural they would take the team prize.
Ex-Rods certainly had a field day, also winning the nearest-the-pin trophy.
Longest drive, with a strong cross-wind blowing many drives off the fairway, was won by John 'Scribe' James. He also took the 20 and over handicap prize with 28 points.
OAP prize went to Terry 'Foggy' Harvey for his 33 points. Recipient of the wooden spoon was Mike 'Janitor' Thomas on 21 points.
The monthly raffle prize went to Steve 'Oars' Jones.
Many thanks to 'Woody' for organising the day.
The next venue on October 8 is Milford Haven Golf Club. Contact Mark at The Angel in Narberth if you wish to join the society.
