This month's venue was the windswept fairways of the South Pembs Golf Club. Lady-luck once again gave us a dry day, not too cold or windy. The course was in very good condition, especially the greens. However, good scores were difficult to find, with no one going past 33 points and many failing to reach 25. Twenty-two players enjoyed the golf and the excellent meal afterwards. There were six threesomes and a fourball, teeing off as follows: Steve 'Oars' Jones, Wyn 'Lob-wedge' Hopkins and Lee 'Long-shot' Lewis; Barry 'Chippy' Wood, Mark 'Woody' Wood and Richard 'Nelson' Davies; Adrian 'Lightning' Alman, Gary 'Speed Date' Hopkins and Phil 'Buggy' Rees; John 'Scribe' James, Mike 'Scrubs' Burke and Darrell 'Ex-Rods' Jones; Allan 'B&B' Haggerty, John 'Homer' Perrott and Rob 'Mr. Fix-It' Thomas; Arwyn The 'Dwarf' Thomas; Terry 'Foggy' Harvey and Glyn 'Chain-saw' Jones; Bobby 'Jalna' King; Mike 'Janitor' Thomas; Frank 'Madrim' Simmons and Gary 'Windows' du Toit. As mentioned earlier, the results were disappointing, only three scoring 30 or more - must have been too much of the good life over Christmas! In first place with 33 pts. was Darrell 'Ex-Rods' Jones, showing signs of regaining his form. Second place went to Bobby 'Jalna' King with 32, very consistent, while third was Frank 'Madrim' Simmons on 30. With Darrell taking first prize, he was not allowed to win the OAP prize, so this went to Barry 'Chippy' Wood with a grand score of 25 pts. The other Wood, Mark, had a magnificent drive straight down the fairway to win the longest drive. Nearest the pin was that man again, Darrell 'Ex- Rods' Jones, whose drive at the third stopped 18ft 3 inches from the hole, a foot nearer than 'Lob- wedge' Hopkins. Team prize went to John 'Scribe' James, Mike 'Scrubs' Burke and Darrel 'Ex-Rods' Jones with a score of 83 pts. Finally, the dreaded wooden spoon - we think he brought the chain saw to destroy his collection of spoons - Glyn 'Chain saw' Jones with 17 pts. No-one managed to birdie a par three. Once again our thanks to Mark, the ground-staff and the caterers. The next outing will be February 13 at Trefloyne - keep practising! J.R.J.
