This month's game was played on the local parkland course of Trefloyne. For many of us it was our home course and some good scores were expected. The day did not start too well as three players did not make the start and grouping had to be reorganised causing a slight delay. Please try to inform the organiser in plenty of time if you cannot play. First to the tee were Gareth 'Goa' Phillips, Steve 'Temple' Price and Keith 'Luke' Warmington. Gareth and Steve found the going a bit tough, however, while Keith, on his home track, came in with a score of 33 pts. Next off were Rick 'Megane' Lewis, Adrian 'Lightning' Allman and Barry 'Chippy' Wood. A strong trio expected to do well, and with a combined score of 96 they thought they were in with a chance. Third out were Gary 'Compo' Hopkins, Steve 'BMW' Rigby and Arwyn 'The Dwarf' Thomas. Their round was nothing short of a nightmare; with a total of 63 pts they could enjoy a better handicap next month! Terry 'Foggy' Harvey, Steve 'Oars' Jones and Trevor 'Birthday boy Santa' Lewis teed-off next. A very strong team, they did not disappoint, returning a useful 98 pts. Last off the first tee were Pat 'Postman' Casement, Roy 'Scooter' Good and Flyn 'Cleggy' Jones. With a score of 85 pts, they all had a good round, but rued those missed putts. The other three groups started from the 10th tee. First were Mike 'Scrubs' Burke, John 'Scribe' James and Alan 'Scottie' Taylor. Again, the missed putts kept the scoring down; also three second shots on the 10th ending in the ditch parallel with the fairway didn't help. Next came the trio of Mark 'Angel' Wood, Glyn 'Lock' Latcham and Wyn 'Lob Wedge' Hopkins. A moderate total of 82 was not enough to worry the front runners. The final team of Alan 'Dunhill' Chapman, Tim 'Gavel' Davies and Steve 'Stenson' Oulsnam teed- off with high hopes of burning up the course. However, the course proved tricky for Tim and Steve, but a combined score of 87 was not too bad. After a delicious meal from the Trefloyne kitchen, the presentation of prizes began. Top of the list was the birthday boy, Trevor 'Santa' Lewis - many happy returns of the day from KGS. With 36 points he also picked up the best OAP prize. Second overall was Alan 'Dunhill' Chapman with 35 pts; 20-plus handicap winner with 33 pts was newcomer Steve 'Oars' Jones - welcome to the society Steve. Nearest the pin at 25ft 3in was Alan 'Scottie' Taylor - quite a feat on the sloping 12th. Terry 'Foggy' Harvey managed to find the fairway on the 17th to win the longest drive. For the second month running, the wooden spoon went to Steve 'BMW' Rigby - not a record Steve, someone had three in a row. Finally, the team prize went to the team with 98 pts, Terry 'Foggy' Harvey, Steve 'Oars' Jones and Trevor 'Santa' Lewis - well played everyone. Thanks to all at Trefloyne for making the day a great success. The next game will be at Glyn Abbey on Wednesday, May 9.
