This month's tournament took place on the picturesque, wind-swept course at Milford Haven. Fortunately the rain stayed away and when the sun came out it was very pleasant. Due to the lack of rain, the fairways were very fast, producing some prodigious drives (not all on the right fairway!) and some good scores. Heading the way were John 'Homer' Perrott, Trevor 'Santa' Lewis and Tim 'Gavel' Davies. 'Gavel' had a good round, but the team fell short of the mark. Next out, Gary 'Windows' Du Toit, Steve 'Dentures' Allen and Gary 'Harpic' Hopkins. Again some good scores, but stray shots let them down. Ricky 'Megane' Lewis led off the next trio, followed by Len 'Corrie' Fairclough and Wyn 'Gasoline' Hopkins. No sparks from these fellows, even 'Megane's' driver let him down. Fourth on the tee were Lee 'Larnie' Lewis, Barry 'Chippy' Wood and Eddy 'Angel' Mutch. They failed to set the course alight, but one member did make the prize list. Next to tee off were Giles 'HTV' Smith, Gareth 'Goa- Jeans' Phillips and Pat 'Postie' Casement. A strong trio, but they did not have a good day at the office! The sixth team to drive off was big-hitting Terry 'Snowy' Harvey, much improved Glyn 'Shots' Jones (time he was lower than 28) and Neil 'Mouse' Evans. 'Snowy' was seen wandering on adjacent fairways - not the only one as the crosswind was making straight drives difficult. Roy 'Evel Knievel' Good, on his ride-on trolley, led off the next group, partnering Adrian 'Lightning' Alman and Steve 'Stetson' Oulsman. The handicap secretary will be grabbing his scissors when he sees their cards! Finally, a foursome of John 'Scribe' James, Mark 'Woody' Wood, Thomas 'The Flag' Harvey and Wayne 'Screws' Connott set out to conquer the course. Things started well, but the momentum could not be maintained. An excellent meal and cold refreshments revived everyone for the presentations. With a fine score of 43 points, first prize went to Steve 'Stetson' Oulsman, your handicap's for the chop! Second on 37 points was Tim 'Gavel' Davies. Also on 37 points, in third place, was Gary 'Harpic' Hopkins. OAP and over 20 handicap prizes also to 'Stetson' - well done Steve. He's not finished yet, sharing team prize with Adrian 'Lightning' Alman and Roy 'Evel Knievel' Good. Nearest the pin was Roy 'Evel Knievel' - what a dream team! The longest drive, thanks to a convenient bounce off a tree putting the ball on the fairway, went to the 'Scribe' himself. Finally, the wooden spoon, this month's 'winner', Eddy 'Angel' Mutch - at least your handicap should help next time. Everyone thanked 'Woody' for once again organising a lovely day of golf. Thanks also to 'Angel' and 'Megane' for running the raffle which will go to subsidising the coach for next month's outing. This will be on September 13 at the Mountain Lakes course, Caerphilly. The coach will leave the Kilgetty Buffs Club at 7 am. If you book a place and find you cannot make it, please let 'Woody' know in good time.
