Due to some last minute withdrawals, the society travelled to Grove Golf Club, near Porthcawl, with a complement of 35 eager players. The day turned out to be one of our most successful yet.

The venue was highly praised by all who took part and the course, very tricky and at times quite trying, played extremely well.

After the competition ended, a superb meal was dished up by the hosts and thoroughly enjoyed by all, bar one, Steve 'Squirty' Scanlon! He did, however, make amends later on in the bar.

A short and very entertaining speech was made by Steve 'The Cash' Price, who thanked everyone for taking part and also thanked 'Woody' for organising such a successful day; this was interspersed with a few hilarious ancedotes, least of all about golf.

Roy 'The Rogue' Goode (soon to be cut) had an early Christmas as he picked up most of the trophies. Congrats Roy.

He just pipped Rick 'Blarney' Lewis on the back nine (39 pts.), while third place went to Ian 'Ianto' Thomas, who again won on the back nine, pipping Barry 'Chippy' Wood; both had 38 pts.

Results: 1. Roy Goode 39 pts; 2. Rick Lewis 39; 3. Ian Thomas 38.

Veterans: Roy Goode.

High handicaps: Roy Goode (to be chopped).

Longest drive: John 'Jammy' James.

Nearest the pin: Steve 'The Dray' Harries.

Wooden Spoon: Brian 'The Drive' Green.

Team: Gareth 'Fish' Phillips, Brain 'Slasher' Morgan and Rob 'Willy' Wilcox with an average 34 pts.

The next outing is on Wednesday, January 7, at the lovely Newport (Pembs) Golf Course. Names to Woody or Barry as soon as possible please. Tee-off at 10 am, and transport (own cars) will leave RAOB, Kilgetty, by 8.30 am. Try not to be late.

Help is still required, so don't be shy, please come forward to ease the burden.

Finally, thanks for all the support through the year, long may it last. Finally, a very happy Christmas and New Year. See all of you on January 7.
