District Enforcement officers are being tasked to monitor the recycling facilities at Kilgetty Co-op’s car park following a number of fly-tipping incidents that have occurred at the site.
Local resident Andrew Morgan who took one of the photographs of the scene seen here on Wednesday morning said that this was ‘typical of the daily mess left there’ that never seems to get cleaned up by Pembrokeshire County Council.
“Despite dozens of emails and phone calls , nothing gets done by the council, and one customer of the Co-op said that when they phoned the council they just laughed, and said maybe they can put a sign up saying no fly tipping,” he told the Observer.
“I have spoken with the Co-op who have failed to get any response from PCC, and the store’s head office are now considering telling the council to remove the recycling bins from their car park, as it is causing major issues with illegal daily fly tipping.
“They receive hundreds of complaints from customers, and to be fair, the store’s staff have gone out themselves at times and picked up the torn bin bags and contents themselves and taken it to the tip.
“It is a service provided for locals, saving people the trip to the Cross Crane recycling facility to dispose of their recycling items,” he added.
Another local resident posted on social media: “It keeps happening, keeps getting reported, and residents are fed up with seeing it. It’s not a great image for visitors either.”A spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council said that the Authority were aware of the situation at Kilgetty and visit the site on a weekly basis with refuse and recycling lorries to clear up the mess.
“Over the past two weekends we have asked District Enforcement officers to attend, and they have issued a number of Fixed Penalty Notices for littering and we will continue to monitor the situation.
“The community is keen to keep the facility in Kilgetty. It is only a small minority of people who are causing a problem,” added the spokesperson.
