Begelly, Kilgetty Community Association was fortunate in having a dry and bright day for judging this year's Kilgetty in Bloom competition. Although entries were down on last year, probably due to the appalling gardening weather recently, the gardens were a delight to see. It was good to have some new gardens entered, as a couple of the long-term competitors retired this year. The judges were three of the Sardis village gardeners, Rosemarie Irvine, Heulwen Thomas and Vi Merriman, who brought with them a wealth of plant expertise. They also very kindly brought a gift of six shrubs for the Community Garden! The day went smoothly, with a welcome break for lunch, courtesy of Begelly Park Gardens, to whom many thanks are extended. The Open Gardens Day was not run this year, due to lack of numbers, but it is hoped to re-instate this event next year. The presentation of prizes and Strawberry Tea will be held on Friday, July 27, at 5 pm, in the Community Centre and it is hoped all entrants will attend. The members of the environmental sub-committee will again run the Tea Tent at Kingsmoor Sportsground Fete on Sunday, July 29, from 1 pm. All are welcome to the day, which begins with the Bulldog Run of Vintage Vehicles, and ends with a Disco and Pig-Roast. A full day of fun for all!
