The latest meeting of Kilgetty, Begelly Community Council took place at the Community Centre on Thursday of last week. A well attended public participation session ahead of the full council meeting saw various planning and housing issues discussed with local residents. Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) had now confirmed that they were unable to help with the installation of a hand rail in Mayfield Acres, Kilgetty, as the road was a private road and was not adopted by PCC. Additional areas in Reynalton and Kilgetty had now been included in this year's grass cutting contract, together with some 'one-off' vegetation cutting in Reynalton. This followed requests from local residents which KBCC were happy to approve. Council had been sent samples of artificial hanging baskets by their Christmas lighting supplier. Members thought that these baskets would brighten up Kilgetty centre and so would consider whether to purchase some for 2015, at their meeting in December 2014. Council agreed to undertake a co-option opportunity for five casual vacancies for councillor that existed within KBCC. Public notices would shortly be displayed in the community notice boards giving details. Details can also be obtained from Ian Morris, clerk. Valero had re-affirmed its commitment to help undertake some voluntary remedial and redecorating work on the community centre building in Kilgetty. It was hoped that this work would commence early next year. KBCC were continuing to work closely with PCC and Dyfed-Powys Police in seeking a reduction of the speed limit to 30 mph in Begelly. This work may also see the installation of new traffic calming measures, including rumble strips and a vehicle-activated speed sign, funded by KBCC. Begelly-Kilgetty Community Association (BKCA): The recent Plant Sale held at the Community Centre in Kilgetty raised over £460. This year's Kilgetty Fun Day would be taking place on August 9, with attractions to include a classic cars display, dog show, tea tent, bric-a-brac stall, book stall, coconut shy, bouncy castle and the famous Bull Dog Run. Planning: KBCC considered the following planning application and after lengthy discussion recommended approval - agricultural building at Langdon Farm, Begelly. Members debated the merits of this case at length and noted that the applicant would be undertaking various measures to tackle the additional landscaping, noise and lighting issues that would affect the neighbouring property. It was also noted that this project would see an additional five or six full-time jobs created. KBCC also sustained earlier objections to a development of 115 properties on land south of Sunnyside, Parsonage Lane, Begelly. County Clr. David Pugh's report: Clr. Pugh confirmed that measures to tackle the on-going illegal parking problems outside the Co-operative Store in Kilgetty were proceeding. The new dog fouling signs should soon be erected in Kilgetty's children's play area. Road surface problems (sinking surface) near to Crossroads Garage, Begelly, had been reported to PCC, together with problems with one of the speed ramps outside Stepaside School. PCC would be interviewing three candidates on July 10 for the head teacher position at Stepaside School. The current head teacher, Peter Griffiths, retires later this year. Next meeting: The next meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council will take place on Thursday, July 10, in the Green Room, Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre, commencing at 7.30 pm. As always, copies of the full minutes meetings can be viewed by local residents by contacting the clerk, Ian Morris, on 01834 450064, or by accessing the new website: http://www.pembstcc.co.uk">www.pembstcc.co.uk
