At the June meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council members heard that unfortunately their proposals to set up allotments on Miner's Field, Kilgetty, had been postponed for the time being. This was due to a lack of interest in forming the necessary allotment association, despite some local residents willing to take up an allotment. KBCC is grateful for the interest shown and will ensure that the project can be revived at a future date, providing greater interest and support can be found in forming an allotment association.
KBCC has received an unqualified audit report from external auditors, BDO LLP for the financial year 2012/13. Local residents will shortly be able to inspect the books and records associated with the annual audit. Details of the timescales for inspection will be placed on the community notice boards.
KBCC agreed to initiate further repair work and enhancements to the fencing around Kilgetty play area following recent vandalism.
Proposals to reduce the speed limit between Thomas Chapel turn and Begelly village are still being considered by Dyfed-Powys Police and so KBCC will review the position in August.
Installation of a hand rail by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) at the steep entrance to Mayfield Acres, Kilgetty, is imminent.
Additional rubbish bins are en route to Kilgetty from PCC. Exact siting of these bins, which will take dog waste, will be discussed at the July council meeting.
KBCC are looking to install a bench near to the entrance of St. Mary's Church in Begelly.
KBCC has asked PCC to look at repairing the footpath between Manian Lodge and Begelly Stores in Begelly. The footpath is deteriorating and breaking up.
Likewise, a request to infill some large potholes in the GP Surgery/Community Centre car park, has also been made to PCC.
Some concerns have been expressed about vehicle parking outside the new Post Office in Kilgetty. This is near to the railway bridge and this illegal parking has caused some congestion at times.
Begelly-Kilgetty Community Association (BKCA): The recent Quiz Night saw over 40 in attendance and £115 was raised by the BKCA. In addition, the Plant Sale, held in the Community Garden on June 8, raised £350 and was the most successful yet. All money raised is being put towards the installation of young children's play equipment in the Kilgetty play area.
BKCA is in the early stages of setting up a 'Music in the Garden' event, to be set in the Community Garden later in the summer.
Unfortunately, the BKCA's store and garage was broken into again recently. Some garden equipment was taken; the police are investigating.
Planning
Erection of agricultural buildings, access track and hard standing at Langdon Mill, Begelly. Council had no objections, but wished to draw the attention of PCC's highways department to the impact that additional traffic might have on the bridge at this point. KBCC also asked if an Environmental Impact Study had been completed.
County Councillor David Pugh's Report
A new footpath was to be installed in Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty, near the junction with Carmarthen Road, during the week commencing June 17.
Clr. Pugh is investigating the purchase of additional young children's and toddlers' play equipment in the Kilgetty play area on behalf of BKCA. KBCC will be approached for support.
Next meeting
The next meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council will take place on Thursday, July 11, in the Green Room, Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre, commencing at 7.30 pm. July planning applications will be available for inspection 15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. Members of the public are invited to attend. The public participation session begins at 7.30 pm.
