Berfore the start of the January meeting of Kilgetty Begelly Community Council, a talk was given by Carol and Ann, two representatives of the Friends of Stepaside School. They said the cost of school trips was rising and some parents were struggling to afford them.
The Friends had come up with a scheme whereby clothes would be collected locally and sold by the school to raise money. The proceeds from the sale would be used exclusively for the subsidisation of school trips.
Residents would receive blue bags and leaflets in the near future. It was hoped that locals would donate their unwanted items of clothing into these bags for the benefit of the school. In the future, the school also hoped to acquire a clothes bin and site it in the Co-op car park.
KBCC has put up posters in their notice board and library publicising this scheme.
PRECEPT
At the meeting the council also set its precept for the forthcoming financial year and are pleased to announce that they have been able to reduce this by 7.3 per cent, from £20,500 to £19,000. The council was able to make this reduction through good financial planning and careful spending.
It was hoped that residents of Kilgetty and Begelly would appreciate the council's efforts on their behalf and be pleased with the reduction.
The Youth Zone Bus visits Kilgetty every Monday at 6.30 pm. It is a mobile youth club. All 12-25 year olds are welcome. It is hoped that if the Youth Zone Bus is successful, a permanent youth club will be established in the Kilgetty, Begelly area.
Currently, arrangements are being made for a joint surgery involving Angela Burns AM, County Clr. Pugh and a representative of KBCC. Residents will be able to attend with any problems or issues they have. Exact details will be published when they become available.
PLANNING
Planning applications received this month: Conversion of existing building to two dwellings and erection of three dwellings, Mandalay, Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty (objection on two grounds - firstly it would increase sewage flow into an already overloaded system; secondly - it would amount to overdevelopment of the site); new premises licence. Begelly Arms Hotel, New Road, Begelly, Kilgetty (no objections).
Planning permission received this month: Variation of condition 5 of consent to permit 12-month use of caravans for holiday use only, Stepaside Heritage Park, Stepaside; erection of boundary wall, 27 Oakfield Drive, Kilgetty.
