Kilgetty and Begelly ward’s newly elected county councillor, says that one of the most pressing challenges the locality faces is to improve road safety throughout our area.

Alistair Cameron, Welsh Liberal Democrat was elected to represent the ward on Pembrokeshire County Council at the local elections earlier this month.

“Thank you to Chris Ebrey, David Pugh, Gretta Marshall, Paul Wyatt and Peter Adams for taking part in this election and for ensuring we had a good natured and pleasant contest,” he said.

“Thank you also to David Pugh for all of his hard work in representing and serving our area during the past 14 years.

“I am very grateful to the residents of Kilgetty, Begelly, Reynalton and Thomas Chapel for giving me this opportunity to represent them, especially as I grew up in Begelly.

“One of the most pressing challenges we face is to improve road safety throughout our area,” continued Mr. Cameron.

“There are proposals for traffic calming along the A478 in Begelly and Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, although as yet there is no approved budget.

“It is vital that the Council holds full consultations with local residents and that we introduce measures to make our roads and pavements safer.”

Clr. Cameron said that he supported plans by local residents for better community facilities including the planned Men’s Shed in Kilgetty, whilst there also needs to be decent facilities for young people in the area.

“I would like to work with Stepaside CP School as well as my old school, Greenhill, Tenby to support educational opportunities for our young people,” he remarked.

“I also want to work with Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council and local residents’ associations and voluntary organisations who have been working so hard for their communities.

“Pembrokeshire County Council has massive organisational and financial challenges which it needs to overcome in order to serve local people.

“I will work with councillors from all political parties and independents to help us meet those challenges,” added Clr. Cameron.
