Children up to the age of 16 can now travel free of charge on 'Havenlink', a new water transport service which is being piloted in Pembrokeshire this summer.

The boat connects the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail and runs along the Milford Haven Waterway and Lower Cleddau Estuary. Adults who arrive at the boat by sustainable means (walking, cycling or public transport) can travel half-price.

The new concessions are the result of additional funding, which has been secured for the pilot scheme through the Sustainable Development Fund, administered by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority on behalf of the Welsh Assembly Government. The service was launched on June 14 and will continue until Sunday, August 31, operating every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during that period. It starts from Burton, calling at Neyland, Hobbs Point, Hazelbeach and Milford Haven (Mackerel Stage), before returning to Burton. Additional stops at Dale and Angle are included on the timetable, but depend on the tide and weather conditions. The full service (incorporating Dale and Angle) will run from 9 am until 5.30 pm, with the shorter service returning to Burton at 4 pm. The Havenlink water transport service has been designed to be integrated into existing transport links, including the coastal bus service promoted by Pembrokeshire Greenways. The service is led by Pembrokeshire Greenways, which is operated by a number of organisations - including Pembrokeshire County Council - with the aim of encouraging public access to the countryside through public transport.

The Havenlink service is run in conjunction with the Milford Haven Port Authority, who commissioned the trial, along with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, PLANED and South West Wales Tourism Partnership. To book your seat, simply call 01646 602681. Timetables for the service are displayed on the pontoons and are available from Tourist Information Centres.

They are also available on the websites of the following organisations; Pembrokeshire Greenways, Milford Haven Port Authority, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, PLANED, South West Wales Tourism Partnership, Visit Pembrokeshire and Visit Wales.
