In the semi-final of the Ken Morris Trophy, the holders Whitland booked a place in the final with a four wickets win at home to Haverfordwest Thirds.

The competition for clubs having three or more teams has proved very popular with the players and this match was contested keenly, with the result in doubt until the closing stages.

Haverfordwest Thirds scored 101-9 in their 20 overs thanks largely to early order batsmen Jasper Holmes (31) and Mark Cross (19).

For the Whitland team, skipper Gwynne Phillips took 2-18 and Jack Bowen 2-16.

When Whitland replied, six wickets had fallen before Steve Fraser was joined at the crease by Dan Newton.

Both players took every opportunity to score and as well as finding the boundary they ran well between the wickets, particularly when Newton was running towards the danger end.

Victory was achieved with a total of 102-6 after Newton had scored a quickfire 26no and the experienced Fraser 21no. Earlier, Peter Wright had chipped in with 16 and the total was boosted by 21 extras.

For the visitors, youngster Ashley James took 3-20 and Josh Hicks 2-26.

Whitland will meet either Carew or Haverfordwest Fourths in the final to be played at Narberth Cricket Club on Sunday August 8.
