HAVING followed in his family's footsteps, local serviceman Jason Griffiths is about to go one step further by becoming an officer in the Royal Air Force.

A former pupil of Greenhill School, Tenby, Jason, 40, is the third generation of his family to serve in the RAF.

Grandfather Donald served in Bomber Command in the Second World War, father David 12 years in the RAF Tactical Communications Wing.

Donald was awarded the MBE for his services to the Air Training Corps, and both David and wife Penelope have commanded 1284 Squadron ATC in Tenby.

Having served more than 21 years in the RAF, Jason is coming to the end of six months training at RAF College, Cranwell.

"Being the first in my family to gain a commission is the biggest achievement of my RAF career to date," he said. "After graduating I intend continuing my career in the Engineering Branch and am looking forward to taking up a posting on an operational squadron and the challenges that holds."

And the RAF connection is set to continue. Jason is engaged to Gayle Worthington, a fellow Officer Cadet on his course.
