Intrepid kayakers from Pembrokeshire have raised £2,321 for Breast Cancer Care Wales. The 20-strong group - some of whom were complete beginners at the start of the trip - paddled from Tenby, around Caldey Island, and back, in June. They braved difficult conditions to complete the voyage in five hours, Organiser Philip Williams said they were delighted with the amount of money raised. "It took a lot of commitment from all those taking part and I am proud to have been involved with such a great group of people working hard for such a worthwhile cause," he said. "Many thanks to all those people who supported and sponsored us, and congratulations to paddler Sian Griffiths, who individually raised £540." The team, which included 17 employees of Pembrokeshire County Council, were led by sea kayak coach Dave Thom, who had earlier trained them in paddling skills and safety drills. Double sea kayaks were provided by Ocean Rock Coastal Kayak Expeditions, and experienced members of Haverfordwest Kayak Club gave support and safety cover.
