Pembrokeshire's junior tennis teams have served up more success. The Fishguard and Goodwick Tennis Club's Mini Orange team (Under 10s) won the South Wales Indoor Inter-club Competition, while Haverfordwest teams were runners-up in the Mini Green (Under 11s) and Mini Red (Under 8s) categories. The competition was held in Swansea over the weekend. John Deason, Sport Pembrokeshire manager, said Pembrokeshire's young players were certainly making their mark. "The development of any sport is dependant on both raising performance standards and increasing the numbers participating - and in tennis we are now doing both," he said. "The success of Pembrokeshire's youngsters, both at this tournament and on the South Wales circuit generally, is testament to the high level of support from coaches and parents - but most of all it is down to the commitment and enthusiasm of the youngsters themselves." Tennis is one of many sports promoted by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council. Last year, the authority won the LTA Authority of the Year Award for its work in promoting the game. If youngsters are interested in playing tennis they can contact their local club. Fishguard and Goodwick Juniors meet every Monday (5 to 7 pm) at Ysgol Bro Gwaun courts. Haverfordwest Juniors meet every Monday (5 to 7 pm) at the Parade. Tenby Juniors meet every Sunday (10 am to 12 noon) at Greenhill School courts. For more information, contact Sport Pembrokeshire on 01437 776188.
