Tenby Junior celebrated 'Global Citizen Day' on the eve of their October half-term holiday with a thoroughly enjoyed special assembly conducted by the pupils of class 4C. All staff and pupils looked resplendent in their colourful outfits that saw all continents of the globe represented.

The pupils of Mr. Tom Cox's class 4C put on a very professional and highly entertaining multi-media presentation on the cultures and traditions of both China and Kazakhstan, which was interspersed with acting cameos to bring the traditions and folklore to life.

The Assembly was the culmination of a lot of activity at the school that has seen the pupils raise a magnificent sum of £750 so far (with a bit more to come) for the SOS Children's Village in Gabarone, Botswana.

Special guests at the Assembly were president Dr. John Bowen, of the Rotary Club of Tenby, and fellow Rotarians, and president John was delighted to be able to congratulate the school both for their wonderful presentation and their magnificent efforts in raising such a magnificent sum of money for the Children's Village.

Fellow Tenby Rotarian Gareth Evans had recently visited the village on a trip to Africa (as reported in the Tenby Observer), and had intended to show a film of his visit during the assembly. Unfortunately, he was unable to attend, but has vowed to return to the school at a later date to show his film of his visit to the village, which is coincidently also where Tenby Junior School teacher Mrs. Day did a teaching placement earlier in her career.

The pupils' fund-raising efforts included many raffles, a sponsored swim, decorated envelope collection, cake stall and a collection at the school's Harvest Festival service, all of which had been generously supported. During the service, deputy head Mr. Andrew Williams called on school ambassadors Georgina Poole and Nicholas Allen to present the cheque to Tenby Rotary president, Dr. John Bowen, and the club in turn will pass the donation on to SOS Children's Village to add to the donation that the club made earlier in the year.
