Tenby held their second Junior Open a few weeks ago, at the end of half term. Despite the miserable weather, about 90 competitors turned up from around the county, and from as far a field as Aberystwyth and Cardiff.
Mr. Ted Martin very kindly started each group off in style and the junior section are very grateful for all his help - and hope he dried off!
The morning started off drizzly, with the sky threatening to empty out! And it did, hence a number of no returns started to make their way into the club!
There were a number of hardy golfers who were determined to make it all the way round and for some of them it was well worth the soaking!
Once all the players had returned, they also took part in a putting competition with the chance to win a portable television. The money raised from the putting went to Macmillan Nurses and the television had been very generously donated by Darren Griffiths.
Ria and Roger provided an excellent meal for each competitor when they returned to a dry club house and the club captain, lady president and junior captain presented the prizes.
There were nine categories altogether, including medal rounds, stablefords and nine-hole competitions. It was great to see so many of the younger juniors competing. They were each rewarded with a golf ball for their efforts.
Overall winner of the shield was Daniel Farmer, of Haverfordwest, with Tenby's Oliver Duckett and Richard Morton coming second and third.
The best nett was by Vincent Thorne from Priskilly, with Luke Laidler from Trefloyne in second place and Dan Cope in third.
Tenby's Sam Morgan won the stableford category one, with Ashley Evans from Trefloyne in second place and Llyr Raw-Rees in third.
Category two winner was Christian Griffiths, of Priskilly, with Trefloyne boys, David Warren and Matthew McMann taking second and third.
The girls' medal winner was Tenby's Holly Watkins, with Rebecca Harris taking second place. And there was another win for Tenby in the girls' stableford, Rachel Scourfield achieving victory, with Marie McDougal from Haverfordwest taking second place and Anne-Marie Dassen in third.
The nine-hole winner was Ben Lowe, with second place going to Hywel Lloyd and third to Sophie John, all Tenby golfers.
The longest drive went to Steffan Lindquist from Carmarthen and for nearest the pin there were two winners, Oliver Duckett and Gareth Phillips.
A big thank you to all the adults who walked around the course with all the juniors, and also to Ann Blackmore, Gill Roberts and Eamon Maher for all their help with the cards.
Another excellent day - despite the rain! We look forward to next year's event!
