The annual Junior Young Musician Competition organised by the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot took place last Tuesday evening at Saundersfoot CP School, with kind permission of headmistress Miss Helen Lester. The audience of parents and friend, teachers, accompanists, Rotarians and judges were entertained to a feast of music performed by pupils from St. Oswald's, Stepaside and Saundersfoot schools. Rotarian Stewart Treharne, chairman of this year's Youth Activities Committee of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot, arranged the evening. It has been recognised for many years that the musical talent in our local schools is immense and the raw material for the Greenhill School Orchestra and other bands is drawn from the dedication of the parents and teachers of the talented primary school pupils. This type of competition offers the youngsters an opportunity to perform in public, discipline themselves to perform under pressure in a given time, compete with their peers and learn from them and also to be able to accept constructive criticism as a winner has to be selected from the evenings performance. The judges on the night were Paul and Sarah Rapi who once again were faced with the difficult decision of choosing a winner and second place candidate. Rotarian president Howard Griffiths awarded the prizes to the winner Lucy Lloyd (viola) who played 'Theme from Jupiter' by Holst. Second prize went to Ellie Wainwright ('cello) who played 'Gavotte' by J. B. Lully. Both are pupils of Saundersfoot School. The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot is grateful to all the members of staff and all others who helped ensure a delightful evening.
