Local junior golfer, Luke Harries, of Pembroke, is currently riding high with his bout of good fortune.

During Whitsun, Luke travelled with his family to Gullane (home to Muirfield), having qualified again for the US Kids Golf European Championships.

After 72 holes over three days, he came sixth out of 41 competitors in his category, and, just last week, Luke, aged nine, received an invitation from the US Kids Golf organisation inviting him back to play in this year's world championships, being staged in several weeks time at the famous Pinehurst Golf Resort, North Carolina, host of several US Opens.

This has been granted on his exemplary play in tournaments both in this country and the United States.

This will be Luke's fourth crack at the title and he is really looking forward to the challenge.

The good luck continues in his quest to become the HSBC Wee Wonders National Champion this year.

Several weeks ago, Luke won the area qualifier at Trefloyne Golf Club in the nine-10-years-old category.

This took him to the Welsh final at Hay On Wye earlier last week where, again, he secured a win.

Luke will now travel to the national final, which is being held at St. Andrews at the end of the summer.

This will be Luke's second trip to the national final at St. Andrews.

Luke is currently a member of South Pembs. and Tenby Golf Clubs. He is part of the Dyfed Under 14s squad and receives regular coaching from Robert Ryder.
