A week of walking activities and events has been organised to kick-start a new initiative, which aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take the first steps to making walking a part of their daily routine.
The Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire launch will see a range of guided walks take place over seven days from Monday, September 19. The events have been arranged by the Creating an Active Wales Partnership and have been co-ordinated by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.
Park Authority health and tourism policy officer, Hannah Buck, said: “We hope the Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire activities will inspire people to explore the many miles of footpaths the area has to offer, as well as walking to work, to the shops and to school for instance.
“Along with the amazing Pembrokeshire Coast Path, there are a vast number of inland routes and bridleways waiting to be discovered. This week is the start of an ongoing initiative to encourage people to walk as part of their everyday lives for pleasure and for health.”
The activities include free family friendly and after school walks organised by Communities First and two circular walks led by staff from the National Exercise Referral Scheme.
National Park Authority staff will be leading two free open walks at Broad Haven North on Thursday, September 22. There will be two routes, both starting at 1.30 pm in the National Park car park.
One walk will be easy access and suitable for all, including those with wheelchairs or buggies, while the other will offer a chance to explore the Coast Path and surrounding area. Both walks will finish around 4 pm.
A free minibus will be leaving Haverfordwest Bus Station at 1 pm. As spaces are limited, please call Paul Casson to reserve a seat on 07866 771107.
Those who aren’t able to take part in these events or are looking for walks in their area can download more than 200 circular routes from the National Park Authority website by visiting www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/walking.
For those who require more accessible routes, including wheelchair users or parents with prams or buggies, there are also ‘Walks for All’ routes, which can be found by visiting www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/walksforall.
The Let’s Walk Pembrokeshire events will take place from Monday, September 19, onwards. For full details on the week’s activities and details on how to get involved, visit www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/letswalkpembs.
