TENBY resident, Mrs. Jessie Gilson, recently celebrated her 102nd birthday with a party at Tenby Day Centre. Mrs. Gilson had numerous visitors throughout the day, including Pembrokeshire County Council vice-chairman, Clr. Arwyn Williams, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Jessie was born in Birmingham, one of eight children.

Her first job was with a local company wrapping delicate china for exporting abroad.

She married Walter two weeks after the outbreak of the Second World War and the couple lived and worked in the Birmingham area for the next 35 years.

When they retired they moved to Wales and settled in Pleasant Valley.

Sadly, Walter passed away in 1994, but Jessie's community spirit shone through and she continued helping out in the local church and attending the senior citizens club at Kilgetty.
