The champagne corks are popping in Pleasant Valley to mark the 100th birthday of one of its residents.
Young at heart, Jessie Gilson reached her century yesterday (Thursday) at her home in Wesley Close.
Born in Birmingham on the August 12, 1912, she remained in the city throughout her working life.
Jessie met Walter while employed by the same company in Birmingham and they married in 1939, just two weeks after the outbreak of World War Two.
Jessie and Walter retired from working life in Birmingham 35 years ago.
Having a delight for the country lifestyle, they made their retirement home in Pleasant Valley.
Sadly Jessies beloved Walter passed away in 1994.
Jessies community spirit remained while she carried on her work with the local Wesley Chapel, WI, and the senior citizens club at Kilgetty, which she still attends.
She can also be recognised doing her weekly shop at Tesco, along with her neighbour Hilary.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Jessie is holding an open day at her home and invites family and friends and all well-wishers to join with her to help celebrate her 100th birthday.
