On Sunday, Trinity 16, the celebrant and preacher was the Rector, Fr Paul at the Eucharist at Jeffreyston, Rev. Sylvia Temple at Lawrenny; the Rector presided at the Eucharist in Reynalton and Rev. Temple preached.
The Gospel reading was taken from Matthew Ch 22, the Parable of King's banquet, and in his address, the Rector explained that this parable dramatises the climax of Jesus' ministry; his proclamation of God's kingdom is rejected by Israel's leaders, but welcomed by others.
In Jesus, we see a God whose generous, hospitable love makes him vulnerable to human rejection. The love of God calls for our response, the 'yes' which we renew regularly, especially at the Eucharist, and which we seek to live out day by day.
Alice read the Sunday School prayer clearly and confidently, summing up the theme of the day.
It was with sadness that we heard of the sudden passing of Mr. Mike Peach, who for many years had been responsible for this news item. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Carol and their family.
This Sunday, the third Sunday in the month, services will be: 10.30 am - Jeffreyston and Sunday School in St. Oswald's VA School; 12.15 pm - Loveston and the Harvest Festival will take place in Lawrenny Church at 10.45 am.
