The Rev. David Hammond was the celebrant at the morning Eucharist Service in Jeffreystson Church on Sunday, which was the fourth Sunday after Trinity. The preacher and leader of prayers was the Rector, Fr. Paul.
The readings were Ezekiel 2.vv 1-5; Corinthians 12.vv 2-10. The Gospel reading was Mark 6.vv 1-13, where we read of Jesus teaching in the synagogue and in the villages, also the sending out of his disciples.
For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose verse 12 of the Gospel reading, "So they went out and preached that men should repent."
Fr. Paul also drew our attention to words from verse 4 of the Gospel reading, "A prophet is not without honour, except in his own country . . ."
He also referenced the reading from Ezekiel, quoting words from verse 4 "...I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God'."
Fr. Paul said that today we are called to be disciples, living out our lives in order to convey our Christian life, showing love, forgiveness and understanding to others.
When the Sunday School joined us, Fr. Paul was proud to show the lovely coloured cardboard models of the disciples, which they had made. These also carried words such as: Love, Joy, Forgiveness and Generosity. Lorna then clearly read out the closing prayer, based on the disciples, the theme of the day.
We were again reminded about the Pig Roast planned for July 17 and Sea Sunday Service on July 19, both taking place at Cresswell Quay.
Services for this Sunday are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton.
