The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church, on Sunday, the second Sunday after Epiphany. The readings were Samuel 3.vv 1-10, Revelations 5.vv 1-10. The Gospel reading was John 1.vv 43-51, where we read of Jesus calling Philip and Nathaniel.
For his sermon, Fr. Paul highlighted verse 46 of The Gospel of John chapter 1. Nathaniel said to him, 'Can anything good come out of Nazareth,' Philip said to him, 'Come and see.'
In an interesting sermon, Fr. Paul explained the background to the Gospel reading. He said that we should remember that without the facts being fully known, it is easy to get the wrong impression and he urged us to invite people to come and see who Jesus really is.
At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the lovely coloured booklets made in the Sunday School showing words from the Gospel message.
The congregation was also informed that Bishop Wyn, the Diocesan Bishop, would be attending Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, February 1, to conduct a service of Baptism and Confirmation within the celebration of the Eucharist.
Services for this Sunday, January 25, are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton; 6 pm - Evensong, Jeffreyston.
