The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church, on Sunday, the second after Christmas.
The readings were Jeremiah 31.vv 7-14, Ephesians 1.vv 3-14. The Gospel reading was John 1.vv 10-18, where we read of the Word becoming Flesh.
For his sermon, Fr. Paul took as his text words from verse 3 of The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 2, "When King Herod heard this, he was frightened..."
In an interesting sermon, Fr. Paul explained the pressures which the parents of Baby Jesus must have experienced at the birth in the stable, comparing these with the worldwide situation today. He discussed the unusual gifts brought by the Kings which symbolised Royalty, Priesthood and Death.
Fr. Paul led the evening Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church. The morning readings were repeated. In his sermon, Fr. Paul expanded on the teaching from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 2. He stressed the need for us to think of God as the light of the World and of the great love He freely gives to each and everyone of us.
Services for this Sunday, January 11, are: 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton.
