The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the second Sunday before Advent. The readings were Zephaniah 1.vv 7 and 12-18, then first Thessalonians 5.vv 1-11. The Gospel reading was Matthew 25.vv 14-30, where we read of the Parable of the Talents.
For his sermon, Fr. Paul used as a text verse 29 of the Gospel reading "For to all those who have, more will be given, and they will have an abundance; but from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away."
In an interesting sermon, Fr. Paul explained the significance of the Parable of the Talents, saying that in the same way that a talent should be invested to gain money, so our faith should be looked after and shared with others, so that it gains and is purposeful for the service of God.
At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the lovely coloured boxes made by the Sunday School children. These had attached labels showing names of tasks, indicating talents, the theme of the day. Then William clearly read out the closing prayer.
Thanks were expressed for all the hard work done by faithful church members at the Auction of Promises and Various Items etc, held on Friday in the Church Hall. Thanks were also expressed to all the businesses and individuals who contributed, and to the auctioneer, Mr. Maurice Cole, with his humorous manner. The grand sum of £684 was raised for church funds.
Services for this Sunday are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton; 6 pm - Evensong, Jeffreyston.
