The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Remembrance Sunday, in the company of members of the British Legion.

The readings which we were given were Wisdom 6.vv 12-16, and 1, Thessalonians 4.vv 13-18. The Gospel reading was Matthew 25.vv 1-3, where we read about the Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids.

During the singing of the first hymn, the British Legion standards were brought out to the altar. The laying of a wreath was next carried out by Brian Miller, of the community council. The names of all local people who had lost their lives in both of the last two World Wars, were read out during the Act of Remembrance. The Last Post and Reveille were expertly played on the cornet by Carol Powell.

In his interesting sermon, Fr. Paul reminded us that Love, Joy and Goodness need to be proclaimed. When talking about the Unknown Soldier, he said that Jesus was helped in the feeding of the Five Thousand by an unknown boy, as shown in John, chapter 6, verse 9.

At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the lovely coloured poppies made in the Sunday School. Lorna from the Sunday School then clearly read out the closing prayer.

Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant at the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. Fr. Paul led the act of Remembrance and he was also the preacher. In his well-delivered sermon, he expanded on the teaching of Remembrance as given previously. He told us that on a lectern in Westminster Abbey were the wise words 'Attempt Great things for God'.
