St. James' Church, Reynalton, was well attended for the Harvest Festival service on Wednesday evening, September 24. The service was led by the Rector, Fr. Paul, and he first thanked all involved in the lovely decoration of the church for Harvest.

The preacher was the lay reader, Judith Frances from Templeton. The readings were Deuteronomy 26.vv 1-4 and the Gospel of John 6.vv 27-35, where we read of the Bread of Heaven. In her interesting sermon, Judith first drew our attention to the account of the formation of the earth given in the book of Genesis. She exhorted us to praise and thank God for his continuing good providence.

Fr. Paul led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the 19th after Trinity. It was a service incorporating the Baptism of baby Gethin Wyn Bowden, who was accompanied by his parents and godparents, with friends and family.

The readings were: Philippians 2.vv 1-13 and the Gospel reading Matthew 21.vv 23-32, where we read of the questioning by the authorities of the authority of Jesus and the parable of the two sons.

In his short address, Fr. Paul clearly explained the significance of the symbols used in Baptism. After the Baptism, the godparents of baby Gethin Wyn were given a lighted candle to signify 'the Light of Christ' which had come into his life.

At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the cleverly made 'Get Well Card' made in the Sunday School for a faithful church member, Sally Brace, who was ill in hospital.

The closing prayer was clearly read out by William.

Thanks were expressed to Kevin, Margaret and company at Masterland for the excellent Michaelmas Ball held last Friday and those involved in the Annual Church Gift Day on Saturday.

Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant at the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. Fr. Paul was the preacher. The earlier readings were repeated, plus the Old Testament lesson Ezekiel 18.vv 1-4 and 25-32.

For his sermon, Fr. Paul highlighted words from verse 31 of the Gospel reading 'which of the two did the will of his father?' Fr. Paul said that our actions should match our words.

Fr. Paul led the evening Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church. The earlier readings were repeated. In his sermon, Fr. Paul expanded on the teaching from the Gospel of St. Matthew. Fr. Paul said that the Gospel prompts us to examine ourselves, adding that faith runs deep into actions.
