The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, April 11. This day was a special day. Before the start of the service we were all give a leaflet entitled, 'A service of The Holy Eucharist and the Renewal of Baptismal promises for the Feast of Pentecost, the Birthday of the Church'; also an unlit candle. We lit the candles during part of the service to signify the coming of the Holy Spirit. The reading were Acts 2.vv 1-21; 1. Peter 12.vv 4 -13. The Gospel reading was John 20.vv 19-23, where we read of Jesus with his Disciples, when He breathed the Holy Spirit on them. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose, as a text, words from verse 22 of the Gospel reading. Jesus said 'Receive the Holy Spirit. In his sermon, Fr. Paul referred to the Gospel reading and chosen text, also the rest of this morning's readings. He said that we must not be negative, for Jesus lives in us, and in the beauty of creation. At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the coloured balloons from the Sunday School. These were part of the happenings for the birthday of the church. Emma June then led us in the closing prayer based on the theme of the day. We later sang Happy Birthday for the church and enjoyed refreshments as part of the celebrations.
