The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on the second Sunday of Epiphany, also known as the celebration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ. The readings were Isaiah 42 vv 1-9, Acts 10 vv 34 -43. The Gospel reading was Matthew 3 vv 13-17, where we read of the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose as a text, verse 13 of the Gospel reading 'Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptised by him', outlining the circumstances of the arrival of Jesus for Baptism. At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation one example of a paper model of a dove, which had been cleverly made in the Sunday School; this symbolised the Holy Spirit after the theme of the day. The closing prayers were led by Vali, George and Hannah from the Sunday School. Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant at the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton; Fr. Paul was the preacher. The earlier readings were repeated. In his sermon, Fr. Paul expanded on the teaching from Matthew Chapter 3. He said that the Lord Jesus sanctified us on the cross of Calvary, adding that He waits for us to make contact. On Sunday, January 27, the professional biblical story teller, Ron Baker, will attend East Williamston Church at the morning Eucharist service. His very interesting input will replace the sermon. All are welcome! The Christingle service, on the Feast of Candlemas, representing Christ as the Light of The World, will be held at 4 pm in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, February 3. All are welcome!
