The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church, on Sunday, the second Sunday in Advent. The readings were Isaih 11.vv 1-10; Romans 15.vv 4-13. The Gospel reading was Matthew 3.vv 1-12, where we read of John The Baptist preparing The Way. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose as a text verse two of the Gospel reading 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand'. He discussed the type of activities involved in preparing to greet an honoured guest, posing the question 'what would we need to do to be ready to meet with Jesus if he returned to earth today'. At the end of the service, George, on account of his birthday, was chosen to light the second candle on the Advent ring, whilst the congregation sang the first three verses of the Advent Candle Song. We were led in the closing prayer by Vali, George and Ralucca from the Sunday School. Rev. Sylvia Temple was the celebrant at the Eucharist service which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. The preacher was Fr. Paul. We first lit the second candle on the Advent Ring. The earlier readings were repeated. In his sermon, Fr. Paul expanded on the teaching from Matthew Chapter 3. He reminded us that God is a God of love and that when we turn to God He will help us live the way He wants.
