The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the 10th after Pentecost. The readings were Hosea 11.vv 1-11, Colossians 3.vv 1-11. The Gospel reading was Luke 12.vv 13 -21, where we read of the parable of the foolish rich man. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose as a text, words from verse 20 of the Gospel reading "But God said to him, 'you fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' In an interesting sermon, Fr. Paul encouraged us first to become rich towards God, by obedience to his service, before the distractions of this world. Bob Lewis led Evensong in Jeffreyston Church. The Old Testament reading was Ecclesiates chapter 1 vv 1 and 2 and 12-14. From the New Testament, the reading was 2. Peter 1.vv 1-12. For his sermon, Bob first drew our attention to words from verse 3 of the reading from 2. Peter, "His Divine Power has given us everything we need for life and godliness...." In a thought-provoking sermon, Bob said that we have Jesus in our lives and so much to be thankful for, He encouraged us to count our blessings. This Sunday, August 12, starting at 2 pm, we are all invited to an entertaining afternoon at Catershill Farm, Reynalton, for Strawberry Tea, this to raise funds for Reynalton Church. Before that, however, there will be Eucharist and Sunday School at Jeffreyston Church at 10.30 am.
