The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist service in Jeffreyston Church on Sunday, the fourth after Pentecost. It was also a day of celebration for the nativity of John the Baptist. The readings were: Isaiah 40.vv 1-11; Galatians 3.vv 23-29. The Gospel reading was Luke 8.vv 26-39, where we read of Jesus healing a demon possessed man. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose as a text verse 30 of the Gospel reading: 'Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him'. Fr. Paul said that today we are affected by many types of demon, which are like sins, for which we have our faith in God to help us overcome. At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the coloured paper chains made in the Sunday Schoo; these showed the words 'Go and tell everyone what God has done for you'. This was reflected in the closing prayer read out by Vali and George. Fr. Paul was the celebrant at the Eucharist service, which followed in St. James' Church, Reynalton. The preacher was Rev. Sylvia Temple. The earlier readings were repeated. For her sermon, Rev. Sylvia talked on the nativity and life of John the Baptist. Rev. Sylvia said that based on his example we would do well to have a rule for life, which was maintained by our Christian religion. On Friday, July 13, a Pig Roast will be held at Cresswell Quay and the Sea Service will be held there on Sunday evening, July 15. All are welcome to these events. Services for this Sunday are: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Loveston; 6 pm - Evensong, Jeffreyston.
