The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the morning Eucharist Service in Jeffreyston parishes on Sunday, the third after Epiphany. The readings were: Nehemiah 8.vv 1-2, 5-6 and 8 -10, 1. Corinthians 12.vv 12-31. The Gospel reading was Luke 4.vv 14-21, where we read of Jesus teaching in the synagogues, including a quotation from Isaiah chapter 61, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor." Fr. Paul took as his text words from verse 21 of the Gospel reading, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Fr. Paul reviewed all readings and when discussing Corinthians he explained that we are all equally important in the eyes of God, adding that we must use our God-given talents for his service, including the support of each other. At the end of the service, Fr. Paul was proud to show the congregation the work done by the Sunday School, with cleverly made cardboard models of people having moving arms, legs etc. This conveyed that, although we are individuals, we all come together as the body of Christ. At the end of the service, all the children assembled at the front of the church and cleverly mimed a song to emphasise this. Jack and Sam read the closing prayer. A Bingo evening will be held in East Williamston Village Hall on Friday, February 2, starting at 7.30 pm, this to raise funds for East Williamston Church. All are welcome. Church services for this Sunday, January 28, are as follows: 9 am - Eucharist, East Williamston; 10.30 am - Eucharist and Sunday School, Jeffreyston; 12 noon - Eucharist, Reynalton.
