The Rector, Fr. Paul, led the Eucharist services in the parishes on the 11th Sunday of Pentecost, August 20. The readings were Proverbs 9. verse 1 -6, then Ephesians 5. vv 15-20. The Gospel reading was John 6. vv 51-58, where we read of Jesus explaining himself as the 'Bread of Life'. As a text for his sermon, Fr. Paul chose verse 53 of the Gospel reading 'unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you'. In reviewing the readings, Fr. Paul stressed that as Christians we need to have a continuing union with Jesus Christ, with regular taking of bread and wine at the communion table. Thanks were expressed to all who helped and participated in last Sunday's Strawberry Tea held at Catershill Farm, Reynalton, at the kind invitation of Rosemary Killa and her family. The magnificent sum of at least £441 was raised for the benefit of Reynalton Church. Fr. Paul, assisted by the Rev. Peter Lewis, of Narberth, led the open-air evening worship held at Bubbleton, Cresswell Quay, at the kind invitation of Janet and Steve Williams. The service started with the lighting of three candles to honour The Trinity, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The service then took the form of devotional readings, interspersed with hymn singing. After the service everyone was treated to sumptuous refreshments. The churches had a stall at Martletwy Show on Wednesday, with all proceeds to Christian Aid. There will also be a stall at Cresselly House Country Fete on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, with proceeds to Jeffreyston Church funds. There will be a week of celebration for the churches in this group on September 10-17 as follows: September 10: Opening service for Dedication week with invited guest preacher.
