The rector, Fr. Paul, led the Eucharist services on the third Sunday in Advent. Before the service started, Fr. Paul lit the third candle on the Advent ring, while the congregation sang the first four verses of the Advent Candle Song. The readings were Malachi 3 vv1-5 and 1 Corinthians 4 vv1-5. The Gospel reading was Matthew 11 vv2-10, which tells of John the Baptist held in a Roman prison. For his sermon, Fr. Paul chose verse 4 of the Gospel reading "And Jesus answered them 'Go and tell John what you hear and see'." Fr. Paul explained the confusion that John was in, being held in prison and needing reassurance. He said that this is similar to us today, when affected by difficulties in life and needing a sense of hope. The answer is in God's Word. Fr. Paul reminded us that Advent is a time when The Lord comes into our lives afresh. Thanks had previously been expressed to all who supported the Christmas Fayre held recently in the Jeffreyston Church Hall. The following sums were raised: Jeffreyston, £297; East Williamston, £133; Loveston £180; and Reynalton £73.
