Members of Jeffreyston Community Council recently paid thanks to Mr. Robert Scourfield of Cresswell Quay, who has stepped down after many years’ service.
Mr. Scourfield, who joined the council in 2003, has served as chair and vice-chair at different times over the past sixteen years, and leaves to spend more time with his many other commitments.
Present chair, Mrs. Maria Rogers, paid tribute to him for his work, dedication and commitment over the years.
“Community council meetings won’t be the same without Rob sitting alongside us, he’ll be greatly missed!” she said.
“His insight and expertise have been invaluable, and his dedication to the community was clearly evidenced at the time of the May 2017 community council election.
“Having previously announced his intention to step down, he willingly carried on in the role after too few people put themselves forward for the community council to be quorate – and we even managed to persuade him to carry on for another two years as well!”
Echoing those sentiments, Pembrokeshire county councillor for Jeffreyston, Jacob Williams, told the Observer that Mr. Scourfield’s local history knowledge was “second to none,” adding: “and I don’t just mean Jeffreyston or Cresswell Quay where he calls home. Anyone who knows Rob knows his knowledge of the south of the county and beyond is an asset, and his input will be missed.”
“Rob’s been loyal to the whole Jeffreyston community and served during times when interest in community council positions was particularly low,” said Clr. Williams.
“I’d like to thank him for volunteering his time and abilities over so many years, and I wish him well for the future.
“He tells me that, among other things, he hopes to spend more time tending to his already pristine garden – so
“I’ll be paying even closer attention to it whenever I go down the Quay from now on!”
