At the annual meeting of Jeffreyston Community Council held recently, Clrs. T. B. Miller and Rev. N. P. Davies were appointed chairman and vice- chairman, respectively. Information was received from Pembrokeshire County Council in respect of the introduction of a Good Neighbour Scheme in rural areas. The scheme is a voluntary initiative run by a group of local residents who recognise the benefits of such a scheme to the community and want to help their neighbours enjoy a better quality of life. The scheme is operated via a mobile phone which is held in turn by a core group of volunteers. A duty period is usually one week, but can be negotiated between members of the volunteer team. Any resident in need of help of the kind offered can ring the number which is publicised to every household in the village. The scheme responds to calls for help from any resident, regardless of age. Calls are answered by a duty resident who then matches the needs of the caller to an appropriate volunteer who has agreed to help with that type of problem. In view of the time which has elapsed, information was to be sought from the rural housing enabler as to the position with regard to the provision of low cost housing in Jeffreyston. Letters were to be sent to the former members who had not sought re-election for the service given during their years in office
