An evening of Welsh music took place at Jameston Mission Room on Wednesday, October 17. Ceri Rhys Matthews (flute, pipes and guitar) and Christine Cooper (fiddle) gave an entertaining performance of Welsh traditional music and song. They both gave a refreshing approach to the beauty and subtlety of Welsh traditional melody.
Music included John Thomas's 'Hornpipes' played on pibau cwd (Pembrokeshire bagpipe) and 'Bushes and Briars' from a collection of Vaughan Williams's tunes.
Ceri and Christine provided answers to questions about music, giving an insight into Welsh folklore. Ceri has toured Britain and abroad, both as a soloist and with the band Fernhill. He is also a musical director of the fflach:tradd record label.
Christine from Jameston, a former winner of the Welsh Celtic fiddle competition, has travelled extensively in Asia, Australia and Africa since leaving Greenhill School in 2001.
Refreshments were provided by the Jameston Community Association and all proceeds went towards the Mission Room refurbishment project.
