Top children's writer Chris Bradford paid a visit to Pembrokeshire last week.

The author of Young Samurai: The Way of the Warrior demonstrated his sword skills when he visited Haverfordwest Library.

The writer and musician was invited to the county by Pembrokeshire County Council's education department as part of a national campaign to encourage reading.

His book, which is the first of a trilogy, tells the tale of an English boy striving to become a samurai in 17th century Japan.

Long listed for the prestigious Carnegie Medal, it has proved extremely popular, especially with boys.

Chris Bradford talked about his book and Japanese customs to pupils from Fenton Primary and Pembroke School at Haverfordwest Library last Thursday. Later he visited St. Mark's School in Merlin's Bridge.

Previously he had visited Tasker Milward School on Wednesday afternoon and stopped off at Goodwick Scout Hall in the evening.

The visit was part of the Read a Million Words initiative, which was launched by Basic Skills Cymru two years ago to encourage school children to develop a love of reading.
