Surfers are not alone at riding the waves at Freshwater West. Each year thousands of litres of rubbish are spewed onto the famed beach by the spectacular swell.
In response to the vast amount of litter washed up on his favourite surfing beach our surf ambassador, Raife Gaskell, has organised a big bash Beach Clean at Freshwater West on March 17.
Raife, in conjunction with National Trust, RNLI and Keep Wales Tidy, will be working hard to remove as much litter as possible between 11 am and 1 pm.
According to the Marine Conservation Society, there are two pieces of litter on every metre of our coastline, most of it plastic. In the last beach clean in the autumn, over 117 bags of beach litter were collected - which amounts to a startling 8,000 litres of rubbish.
Raife commented: "I love Fresh West, it's a special place that needs looking after for everyone to enjoy. I'm super keen to get everyone involved in the beach clean, come and help it'll be a great day."
Rebecca Stock, operations manager, said: "We do our best to preserve and protect our special places in our care and with the help of beach users and the local community a joint effort makes a huge difference."
A BBQ will be on offer for all those who help out on the day.
