Valero's Pembroke Refinery has stepped in with a timely donation which has enabled the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust to undertake a much needed upgrade of its IT equipment.

Since the Trust began its heritage projects in 2007, it has made do with computers and equipment acquired from various sources. This has now changed thanks to Valero's donation.

New computers have been installed for the staff team and others are being upgraded for the Trust's archive section which is a very important part of the overall project.

Installation work has been undertaken by Bryn Nicholas, of Pembrokeshire County Council's community regeneration team, and further reflects the ongoing support provided by Pembrokeshire County Council to the Sunderland Trust's rapidly developing heritage initiatives. Bryn is also giving some of his time as a Trust volunteer.

William James, Valero's public affairs assistant, visited the Trust's new Fleets to Flying Boats Centre in the former Royal Dockyard to see progress on the IT front.

Said William: "Valero are delighted to assist the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust. The research and archiving of this exciting period in the town's history is one of the most important aspects of the Trust's work, and having the right technical set up is vital to achieving that. Pembroke Refinery has a long history of support for the Trust and Valero are proud to continue that happy association."

Sunderland Trust administration assistant Glynnis Iles added: "We are most grateful to Valero for their continued support of ourselves. We also acknowledge the support of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority which has donated second hand computers which are being upgraded for our archive section."
