On Friday, the Pembroke Autograss Club held their annual dinner-dance at the Giltar Hotel, Tenby. The hotel was full to capacity, with nearly 200 members and friends attending.
The PAC is now the fourth largest club in NASA - the governing body of the sport - and at the close of an excellent season, proudly has 171 members, including 25 junior autograss members, who are aged between 12 and 16 and race the standard Class 1 Minis.
Following a superb meal, various interesting speeches took place. Apart from the club officials - Mr. John Harper, the ex-chairman of NASA - thanked the PAC for the excellent men's national autograss championships which they proudly organised and hosted in August of this year. It has gone down in history as the best ever - all down to hard work and dedication of all PAC members.
Following this, Mr. George Bagley, national class 1 champion, rose again to the occasion with an exciting and interesting speech. George became PAC's 34th national champion.
Apart from George, the PAC had 18 other places at this year's men's nationals, all of whom did the club proud.
The class 1 final has been recorded as the best final ever, with George going from first place and dropping to third, before regaining first place on the last corner.
At the ladies' and junior nationals, the PAC was well represented, with Paula Williams being third in the class one final, but was spun out on the last lap.
Five juniors from PAC took part, with all of them achieving excellent heat results, namely Nathan Rees from Johnston, Mark Brick from Freystrop, Michaela Bevans, Cosheston, and Sam Davies and David Ferguson, both from Brecon.
Michaela reached the 10-car grid final - only the second girl competitor to make the final in the history of the sport. On the first attempt she was leading coming out of the first bend, but due to a collision following her, the race was halted. On the second start, she was forced wide on the circuit, but finished an excellent eighth place out of over 100 competitors.
The PAC was well represented at all major events this year. In the BAS, which is the British Autograss Series, Nathan Rees PAC 57 had a creditable second and third place in two of the British rounds, with Michaela picking up a third. Overall, Michaela finished sixth in the British series and Nathan seventh. PAC's other BAS competitors include Jack Bagley, who achieved a second place in round three, and finished ninth overall, with brother George finishing in 25th place in the British; Duane Harris PAC 60 Class 1; Michael Hicks PAC 51, Lee Wright PAC 80, Anthony Jones PAC 37, Mike Bevan PAC 53, all in Class 2; Phil Lewis PAC 17, Class 4; Tony Rees PAC 05, Damien Harries PAC 06, Class 8; Wayne Llewellyn PAC 1, Class 9.
