The Ironman Wales event came under the spotlight at a full meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council last week at Haverfordwest's County Hall.

At the meeting, Narberth representative, Clr. Wynne Evans, submitted a question to cabinet members on the econmic benefits Ironman had brought to the county.

He also went on to say that he fully embraced the Ironman event, and how much enjoyment it had brought to over an estimated 100,000 spectators across the route that day, with local hotels and guest houses full, not just on the day, but days leading up to the event.

Clr. Evans did accept, however, that some local residents and traders had experienced a difficult day, and he asked for assurances that clearer dialogue was entered into well in advance of next year's event, which was to be held on September 16, and consideration also be given to amend some of the route, to make it easier for people to travel around from Narbertth.

This assurance was given by cabinet member, Clr. Nigel Lewis, in his response.
